Day 2 – Australia Dairy Co, Ngong Ping Village, Yat Lok, Tai Cheong
Australia Dairy Company
Australia Dairy Company – but if you use google maps you have to type in Australian Dairy Company instead.
Did i mention, Australia Dairy Company is just right behind the hotel we were staying -Shamrock Hotel! In case you are not staying at Jordan, this is how you get to Australia Dairy Company, from Jordan Station Exit C2. Australia Dairy Company is the most famous Cha Can Ting or Teahouse in Hong Kong, but not the best. We were there at 8.30am so there wasn’t any queue.
In Hong Kong, their Cha Can Ting set breakfasts are larger than any big breakfast. It includes buttered toast, eggs, macaroni with ham soup, and a drink. We ordered a set breakfast each. I had mine with scrambled eggs instead of sunny-side up.

The Macaroni with Ham Soup was the best tasting out of all the Cha Can Tings that i went to throughout my trip. The scrambled eggs however, were too greasy and i was sick of it after a while. The toast was, well, normal toast. The milk tea that i had was super bitter and it tasted like tea that has been over-brewed.
Double-boiled Milk
We also tried their double-boiled milk, and i surrendered after one mouth. It tasted like a whole mouthful of syrup.
My conclusion for Australia Dairy Company is that it the standards deteriorated after getting too popular, and there are much better Cha Can Tings around in Hong Kong. My favourites are Capital Cafe and Yee Shun Milk Company, which i will touch on at the later parts of the post. If you have to eat at Australia Dairy Company, the only decent food i’ve tried is the Macaroni and Ham Soup, which is a safe bet.
After leaving the Australia Dairy Company at around 9.00am, there was a long queue forming outside. Hence the best time to visit is 8.30am, unless you don’t mind queuing for 30mins.
Travelling to the Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car
From Jordan Station, take the MTR to Lai King Station, and change the yellow line to Tung Chung Station (16.9HKD) Exit B. Once at the Plaza you will be able to see the cable car lines.
There is alot of ongoing upgrading works so look out for the entrance to the Ngong Ping 360 Station.
Is pre-booking of the cable car tickets necessary? It depends on the time that you are going. You do not need to pre-book your tickets if you are going to Ngong Ping Village before noon. But the queue goes crazy in the afternoon.
Next question is: what tickets to buy – one-way or two-way? I bought the two-way tickets at 185HKD as my itinerary doesn’t include going to Tai-O. However, if you plan to go to Tai-O, then it would be more convenient to just buy a one-way ticket.
Ngong Ping Village
There is a variety of dining options at Ngong Ping Village, but if you walk further up and out of the village (after point 20), there are street stalls selling more authentic Curry Fishball, Sausages, and Beancurd which is cheaper too.

Yat Lok Roasted Goose
After Ngong Ping, we took a train from Tung Chung to Central (Exit D2) for lunch at Yat Lok! Directions here. We were in a party of 5 so we had to split our tables due to long queue, and we still had to wait for about 30 mins. That was about 3pm, so i can’t imagine the queue during peak hours. I saw many groups ordering take-aways, which is much faster if you are short of time.
Roasted Goose and soy chicken rice
This was my first try at Roasted Goose, and it taste 100% better than Roasted Duck. Softer, more succulent, and the flavour is just amazing. I had my rice with their Soy Chicken, which was really nice as well, but the star of the dish was the Roasted Goose. The sauce accompanying it was not too thick nor thin, it was also not too salty or sweet. My plate cost 55HKD and i conclude that it was my best meal in Hong Kong.
Tai Cheong Egg Tarts
At Central, we had to try the famous Tai Cheong Egg Tarts since it was so near to Yat Lok.

Tai Cheong makes decent tasting egg tarts, but there isn’t really anything extraordinary about their egg tarts. If you are in the area, you can try it for yourself but it isn’t really worth my effort or calories.
We ended the day by going back to Mongkok for more shopping!
